Take it easy, dude, but take it!

Book: The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin

I’ve not read any Chinese authors before, so I was excited to pick this up. I’d only heard good things about it from other people (including Obama’s quote on the front cover), but for me it just didn’t live up to the expectations.

The story did start off strong and had me intrigued as to what was going on. It evolved in a way that felt different and original to a lot of other Sci-Fi I’ve read.

However, as the book went and started to get to the end, it just felt like it completely lost the plot to me. A lot of it ended up being too absurd and convoluted to really hit with that kind of realism I was expecting, and the characters never developed into anything.

There were also some problems with the writing/prose I felt with it being quite bland and repetitive, but I could understand that this might be due to the translation.

I don’t think I’ll be continuing with the series any time soon.
